What do frozen turkeys, mince pies, Christmas crackers and party poppers have in common?  They are all items that passengers have wanted to take in their hand baggage over the festive period. Christmas is one of our busiest times with families and friends getting together or getting away from it all, and each year we receive lots of questions and queries from passengers about their travel during the holiday season.

They enquire about about airline luggage restrictions as they have extra heavy suitcases stuffed with gifts, they have concerns about how to get here if trains and coaches are not running their usual services and want to know if our shops and restaurants are open so they can have a meal when they arrive.

We are expecting in the region of 1.5 million passengers to fly through Gatwick over the Christmas period (between 17 December and 2 January). Geneva and Edinburgh are the two most popular destinations with passengers heading for the Alps or for Scotland’s legendary New Year festivities. Dubai is next on the list for those who are searching for a bit of winter sun.

To make everyone’s journey a little bit easier we have created this fun infographic addressing the top 12 things that passengers want and need to know if they are travelling at Christmas.

Have a safe and Happy Christmas from everyone at Gatwick Airport.
