This consultation is now closed. Thank you to everyone who expressed an interest and returned a response.
What happens now?
All the responses to the consultation were submitted to an independent analysis company, who will review them and publish a report on the consultation during July. We will use this feedback to refine and improve the scheme and will submit the consultation report to the Airports Commission to include within their assessment work over the summer.
The Airports Commission plans to conduct a national consultation on the schemes for Gatwick and Heathrow in the autumn. Once this consultation is complete, they will make a final recommendation to Government on the location of the UK’s next runway in summer 2015, after the next general election. It is then for the Government to make a final decision. The formal planning process will then begin, including further consultations.
How did we consult?
Our consultation on options for a second runway took place between 4 April and 16 May 2014. The purpose of the consultation was to provide information about our second runway proposals and give you the opportunity to tell us what you think.
To advertise the consultation, we sent a newsletter to 180,000 addresses in the local area and placed adverts in the local press and on media websites. All supporting documents and information are available here on our website.
We held 17 public exhibitions in the local area. Over 6,000 people attended our exhibitions where our team was on hand to explain the options and answer questions. We also held two workshops where stakeholders came together to discuss the options, benefits and impacts of our second runway proposals.
You can watch our video which explains the different options we're exploring for a second runway at Gatwick and our consultation process:
