Meet... Suzanne, terminal duty manager
Terminal duty manager
Why did you join Gatwick Airport Limited? I’ve worked at the airport for almost two years now; I started here in July 2009. I’d worked in the travel industry for 17 years and whilst I absolutely loved it, the travelling was becoming less enjoyable. I wanted to work somewhere that still had that same buzz about it and where better than the airport so I decided to give it a try!
What do you like best about your job? Leading a busy operation brings with it lots of variety and my days are incredibly busy. I love that and I love dealing with people whether they be my team, the stakeholders I come into contact with or the general public. Every day I have the opportunity to make a positive difference to someone’s day.
What qualities do you need to have? I need to be very organised as quite often I’m juggling many balls at the same time and I need to have energy and work at a pace to get things done. No matter how busy things are though, it’s really important that I have a calm approach; I spend a great deal of time dealing with people so they need to know that they can come to me for whatever reason. Friendly, open and with good communication - a good sense of humour also helps!
What’s a typical day for you? No one day is the same to be honest. I spend a lot of time out and about in the Terminals with the teams and dealing with our handing agents but I could be managing emergency situations, attending meetings, planning ahead to ensure we have the correct resources… whatever I’m doing, I’ll always get a great deal of satisfaction from doing it.
