Gatwick is undergoing the biggest transformation in its history. Over the next 10 years we want Gatwick to become the airport of choice, not only in London but in Europe, delivering world class service to our passengers.
Much of this transformation is being delivered through our £1bn capital investment programme. Our aim is to be a bright contemporary airport that provides a smooth journey for everyone, and is flexible enough to deal with a growing business.
See the first signs of our transformation
We haven’t wasted any time starting and our passengers are already enjoying the benefits:
- a quick and convenient connection on our new inter terminal shuttle which opened on 1 July, two months early.
- quick and easy access into North Terminal through our new interchange which incorporates a new forecourt, shuttle station, lifts and escalators .
- more space, shops and restaurants in the extended South Terminal departure lounge
- brighter, modernised gaterooms in South Terminal
- a new ceiling in South Terminal Immigration Hall, South Terminal, with more improvements to come.
What to look forward to next
Next summer, we’ll unveil the North Terminal extension. This will create the space for quicker, more flexible check-in and more space for your bags on your return, as well as a new short stay car park right next to the terminal.
Also, by next summer, your journey through security in South Terminal will be more straightforward with improved facilities that will keep you moving as well as keeping everyone secure.
By September 2011, South Terminal will have a new entrance, offering space and clearer routes.
There’s also plenty going on behind the scenes, with new baggage systems planned for both Terminals, new aircraft stands and more pier service.
Things might be busy for a while
With over 200 projects either in progress or planned, you are likely to see at least a few construction hoardings – but rest assured that we’re doing our best to minimise disruptions.
We’re get most of this ready for the London 2012 Olympics, with the rest in place by March 2013. But that’s not the end of the story – we’re already talking to our airline partners about their future needs, and we intend to go from strength to strength.
