South Terminal improvements
South Terminal is our busiest terminal and we've made some enormous improvements since becoming an independent airport.
Forecourt
A large new entrance area, including zones for cars, taxis, buses and coaches, providing a spectacular entrance to the terminal, along with easier routes in the terminal building. Complete March 2012.
Landside concourse
By removing the clutter and installing a new lighter floor we are creating a brighter, more open check-in and arrivals area. Many of the improvements are already complete and the floor will be finished during 2012.
Security
We have created a large new security area with 19 lanes and dedicated facilities for passengers who need a bit of extra help, plus a premium lane for our first and business class passengers. Opened October 2011.
Baggage system and Pier 1
We are building the complete new baggage system to provide reliability and flexibility for our airlines and passengers. The new baggage building will have an added dimension, surrounded by five new aircraft stands, including new gateroom facilities. This will replace pier 1 and be complete by March 2015.
Departure lounge
In 2009, we completed a large extension to our departure lounge to give more space and retail choice for our passengers. We are now working on new designs which will be complete by summer 2012.
Gaterooms
Pier 2 has been getting a facelift, with changes to aircraft stands and a brighter, lighter interior look, and plenty of seats for passengers as they wait to board their aircraft. Complete in October 2011.
Arrivals passport control
We have refurbished the immigration hall and improved the layout of the desks to give passengers a brighter welcome.
