Gatwick advice for Easter travellers
02 April 2007
BAA Gatwick is gearing up for a busy Easter holiday season, with around 600,000 passengers expected to travel through the airport over the six day Easter bank holiday period (Thursday 5 April through to Tuesday 10 April).
Thursday 5 April is expected to be the busiest day with around 104,000 passengers travelling through the airport. The most popular destinations this Easter include Malaga, Tenerife, Geneva, Edinburgh, Orlando, Alicante, Dublin, Amsterdam, Faro and Barcelona.
BAA Gatwick’s Managing Director, Andy Flower, said: “The airport faces a challenging time ahead, with the start of the holiday season and we are continuing to work with our airlines and business partners to ensure that we can make the experience of travelling through the airport as smooth as possible. We have focused on ensuring that the basics work more efficiently this season, though the investment in additional security personnel and on starting the work to increase the security processing areas”.
BAA Gatwick has been working hard to improve the experience of travelling through the airport for passengers. This includes introducing more security machines and increasing the size of the security lanes in both terminals and the recruitment of additional security staff, which will support our aim of helping passengers pass through the security checks more quickly.
The airport is seeking to recruit over 300 new full time, part time and seasonal Airport Security Officers in total, with the aim that they will all be in place by the busy summer period.
Safety and security remain BAA Gatwick’s highest priorities and passengers are reminded that heightened security restrictions remain at all UK airports. Passengers can carry small quantities of liquids no larger than 100 ml, i.e gels, lotions, pastes, liquid cosmetics, foams and foodstuffs, in their hand baggage in a separate plastic sealed bag, which must be presented when going through airport security checkpoints. However the restriction of one item of hand baggage per passenger remains in place. This must be no larger than 56 centimetres tall (approximately 22 inches), 45 centimetres wide (approximately 17.7 inches) and 25 centimetres deep (approximately 10 inches).
Notes to Editors
Liquid items: we suggest that most items are placed in hold baggage to ease journey time and only items of value or that are required whilst onboard the aircraft are carried in hand baggage.
