Airport Chaplain faces a close shave

27 October 2006

Gatwick Airport’s Anglican Chaplain, Jonathan Baldwin, raised money for two charities on Friday by having his beard and hair shaved off on the airport concourse.

Travel-Care, the airport’s charity which helps travellers in difficulty, and Leukaemia Research benefited from Jonathan’s bravery as Lloyd Culley from The Hairdressing Company, Ifield Parade, Ifield took the razor to the Chaplain’s head and face while staff and bemused passengers looked on.

“I am very grateful for all the support my colleagues have shown and am pleased that two worthy charities will benefit from my ordeal,” Jonathan said. “It really helps me to understand the way people feel after loosing their hair with chemotherapy treatment. It certainly feels very strange without the beard. I’ve had one for the past twenty five years”.

Anybody wishing to contribute to Jonathan’s appeal can do so by logging on to www.justgiving.com/jonathanbaldwin or sending a cheque (indicating the preferred charity) to Gatwick Travel-Care, Room 3014B, Gatwick Village, Gatwick Airport, West Sussex, RH6 0NP.
