August Bank Holiday advice for passengers travelling through Gatwick Airport

21 August 2007

Over 510,000 passengers are expected to travel through Gatwick Airport over the August Bank Holiday weekend (Friday 24 – Monday 27 August inclusive). The busiest day is expected to be Friday 24 August when over 134,000 passengers will pass through the airport.

Most popular destinations this August include Palma De Mallorca, Malaga, Dalaman, Faro, Alicante, Corfu, Dublin, Mahon, Edinburgh and Orlando.

Passengers are reminded to get their holiday off to a flying start by planning ahead and following three simple steps :

 • Only one piece of hand baggage per passenger can be taken through security.

• Liquids, gels and pastes in containers no larger than 100 ml can be carried in hand baggage and they should fit into a clear plastic re-sealable bag measuring no more than - 20cm by 20cm.

• Once through security, passengers can fly with everything they buy.

• Passengers are also reminded that if their airline offers check-in either the day before they fly, self-service at the airport or online, they can go straight to security and then relax in the departure lounge where there’s a wide range of shops and restaurants to enjoy. Private vehicles picking up passengers from outside the South Terminal building are now directed to the short stay car park following recent changes to the layout of the forecourt. Passenger drop offs can be made on the lower forecourt but a strict no waiting policy must be observed at all times. BAA Gatwick encourages passengers to use public transport to travel to and from the airport wherever possible.
