BAA Gatwick reports on a busy April 2006

09 May 2006

BAA Gatwick has recorded strong growth in passenger numbers during April 2006, welcoming over 2.7 million passengers, an increase of 12.5% compared to the same month last year.

Taking into account the effect of Easter holidays which fell later this year, passenger figures for the combined months of March and April 2006 recorded a 6.2% increase compared to the same months in 2005.

Over 1 million passengers travelled on European scheduled services during April, up 12.5%. Greatest growth was seen on routes to Eire up 47.1% with 124,331 passengers travelling. Long haul routes including North Atlantic destinations continued to be popular with over 790,000 passengers travelling through Gatwick in April 2006.

Paula Bell, Finance Director, BAA Gatwick commented; “Gatwick’s continued strong performance is great news – for passengers who are enjoying travelling to a wide range of destinations and for our airline partners too.

"We’re looking forward to continuing to work together as we head towards the busy summer months to provide a bright welcome for everyone who travels through the airport. "

Looking ahead to the summer season, Gatwick will be welcoming Virgin Atlantic’s new services to Montego Bay, Jamaica and for the first time easyJet will be operating to North Africa with a new route to Marrakech from Gatwick in July.
