BAA Gatwick staff race for charity

06 September 2006

A team from BAA Gatwick’s ID Centre took part in the annual Dragon Boat race held at Tilgate Park, Crawley, to raise money for St Catherine’s Hospice on Sunday 3 September.

Over 1,000 people packed into the park to support the Dragon Boat race participants. A sixteen strong team from Gatwick’s ID Centre, made up of Gatwick staff, family and friends, joined teams from over thirty local companies and organisations to race across the lake.

This is the third year that ID Centre staff have taken part in the race, raising a total of £1,200 for the charity from sponsorship and donations from staff at Gatwick Airport, family and friends. This is in addition to £6,000 donated to the hospice over the last few years by the ID Centre from additional fund raising activities.
Speaking after the event, Gemma Smith BAA Gatwick’s ID Centre Account Manager said:” We took part in three races during the day and although we didn’t win any, we felt like winners just taking part and that’s what its all about. We thoroughly enjoyed the day- the weather even brightened up for the participants and spectators by the afternoon. St Catherine’s Hospice provide an amazing service for the local community and we are delighted to be able to support them”.
