BAA Gatwick team go green

24 October 2006

A team of 15 people from BAA’s capital projects, supply chain and IT departments took part in a team building project on Friday 13 October at Tilgate Park, Crawley. The day was organised with the Gatwick Greenspace Partnership, a conservation and environmental awareness organisation who work within the Gatwick locality and who are part-funded by BAA Gatwick.

Gatwick Greenspace Project Manager, Pete Crawford, helped the team with various activates, including the removal of invasive rhododendron using saws and loppers; digging birch saplings and restoring a heathland habitat.

Prad Lukka, BAA’s Decision Support Analyst said: “ We approached the team building day very methodically, with each member of the team volunteering to take on certain roles from project management, to organising the transport arrangements, to PR. We also ensured we had specific objectives that we wanted to achieve from the day, especially as this was our first team build of its kind whereby we undertook to work in a local community around one of BAA’s airports. Our objectives included benefiting the local community and also choosing a project we could really get involved in as a team, whilst having fun!

We achieved our objectives and we felt especially close as a team which was an important objective as the team is spread out between Glasgow, Heathrow and Gatwick and we don’t often have a chance to meet up all together”.

This was the first community volunteering team-build event the group have taken part in. They aim to return to Tilgate Park next year to review how their work has benefited the area and to possibly undertake a similar team building task around another BAA airport.
