Beware ‘Meet and Greet’ airport car parking operators
21 October 2010
- No airport 'Meet and Greet' car parking operators are registered and licensed by Gatwick Airport
- For a guaranteed safe car valet service, book car parking direct with Gatwick Airport online at www.gatwickairport.com
Anne Robinson and the team on BBC’s Watchdog tonight (21 October 210) investigate what happens to your car when you leave it with airport parking companies.
By booking car parking directly with Gatwick Airport at www.gatwickairport.com passengers can be assured that they are only booking in to a car park owned and operated by Gatwick Airport Limited, with the associated guarantee that it will be safe and secure.
Gatwick Airport has had long-standing concerns over the quality of service provided to its passengers by many ‘Meet and Greet’ car parking companies. There can be up to 200 companies offering off-site airport parking services, the majority of which only operate during the peak holiday season.
On the surface, these companies appear to offer passengers with a high quality car valet service. The reality, however, can be very different.
Discerning which company is reputable and which is not can be a tricky business. For peace of mind passengers should book car parking direct with Gatwick Airport. However, if passengers wish to book with an airport ‘Meet and Greet’ firm then Gatwick recommends that they:
- Look out for the Park Mark® symbol. This proves that a car parking facility undergoes annual police checks
- Insist on getting the address details of where the car will be parked. Not having a premise should raise alarm bells
- Ask how far the round-trip is between the airport and car park and make a note of the mileage clocked up on your car
- Check the condition of your car prior to leaving it with a 'Meet and Greet' firm.
