BAA Gatwick springs forward for a busy bank holiday

02 May 2007

BAA Gatwick is gearing up for a busy Spring Bank Holiday as passengers take advantage of the long weekend to jet away.

Over 350,000 people will use Gatwick Airport over the four day weekend period with Friday being the busiest day through the airport with over 97,000 passengers expected. Spain remains a popular choice with Malaga as the top destination. Orlando, Florida is the most popular long haul resort and Dublin top of the UK and Irish destinations.

As more security staff are employed as part of BAA Gatwick’s recruitment drive, bank holiday passengers will begin to see the benefits with quicker processing through security. And building work is underway to extend the security areas in time for summer. Passengers are reminded to plan ahead for their journey by ensuring that any liquids carried in hand baggage do not exceed 100ml. These items must be presented separately at security in a resealable plastic bag measuring no more than 20cm by 20cm.

The threat of industrial action affecting aircraft refuelling at Gatwick over the bank holiday has been called off.

With some terminal changes passengers for the Isle of Man and Inverness are advised that these services transferred from BA Connect to FlyBe earlier in the Spring and now operate from SOUTH Terminal.

Passengers travelling on Virgin Nigeria services to Lagos are advised that these flights will operate from North terminal with effect from 1st May.
