Charities benefit from BAA Gatwick employees’ awards

BAA has recognised its employees at Gatwick Airport who are involved in fundraising and voluntary work with the presentation of its I-Volunteer award cheques.
Funded by the BAA Communities Trust, £100,000 has been presented to the charities supported by BAA employees through the awards, launched in September 2005, during the Government's "Year of the Volunteer". Of this more than £25,000 has been awarded to BAA Gatwick employees for their deserving charities and projects.
All employees who had volunteered or fundraised within the previous 12 months were eligible to be judged for the awards.
"Part of BAA's community relations strategy is to encourage staff to develop key skills and become active local citizens through volunteering," Paul Griffiths, Managing Director BAA Gatwick said. "Some 45 applications were made by BAA Gatwick staff this year, an amazing 100% increase on last year's total. This shows just how much commitment our staff give to charities and local community organisations and demonstrates their personal dedication to some fantastic causes. "
In addition to a donation made to every employee who applied, three major BAA awards were made to Gatwick based staff. These were for Best Individual Volunteer, awarded to Bob Weston (BAA Gatwick Airfield Operations); Most Supportive Manager, awarded to Cathy Bryceson (BAA Gatwick Security) and the Shining Star Award, awarded to Gren Tipper (BAA Gatwick Pavement and Infrastructure Team). Each of these receives £5000 for their charities: Burstow Park Riding Club for the Disabled, St Catherine's Hospice Crawley and the NSPCC respectively.
The awards are made annually to show BAA's support and commitment to volunteering.
