Gatwick launches Christmas with Carols

05 December 2007

BAA Gatwick launched its Christmas Charity Appeal on Monday 3 December with the aid of the Mayor of Crawley, Mercury FM and choristers from Ifield Community College, Crawley.

In the traditional setting around the Christmas Tree in the South Terminal Arrivals Hall, The Worshipful The Mayor of Crawley, Councillor Sally Blake, joined Chris Oxlade, breakfast presenter on Mercury FM and students from the Ifield Community College singing carols and Christmas songs.

Collection boxes around the airport will collect funds for the appeal throughout December which will benefit Travel-Care, Gatwick’s on airport charity helping passengers in need; St Catherine’s Hospice; the local branch of the RNIB and, for the first time Macmillan Cancer Support, a charity chosen by airport employees.

“Mercury FM has a great partnership with BAA Gatwick and I was delighted to get involved with the Gatwick Christmas Appeal this year,” Chris Oxlade said at the launch. “Through Mercury FM, I've been lucky enough to be involved with some of the charities the appeal is helping this year and the work they do is incredible. It's great that Gatwick gets behind the local community and helps those who need assistance at this time of year."

Last year’s appeal raised £8000 for charities thanks to the generosity of the airport’s passengers, friends and staff
