Gatwick launches Christmas with carols
02 December 2008
London Gatwick Airport has launched its Christmas Charity Appeal (Monday 1st December) with the aid of the Mayor of Crawley and choristers from Ifield Community College, Crawley.
The choristers led communal singing of carols and Christmas songs around the traditional Christmas Tree in the South Terminal Arrivals Hall. The Worshipful The Mayor of Crawley, Councillor Howard Bloom officially launched the Gatwick Airport Christmas Charity Appeal which will benefit Gatwick Travel-Care and St Catherine’s Hospice. Gatwick Travel-Care helps over 2000 passengers a year who find themselves in difficulty at the airport; St Catherine’s Hospice is dedicated to providing specialist care and support to local people, their families and friends.
Local choirs will sing around the tree throughout December and the familiar Father Christmas collecting boxes, newly refurbished this year, will be positioned throughout the airport.
“Supporting our local community is very important to everyone at Gatwick, especially during the festive period,” Julie Ayres, Chair of the Gatwick Christmas Appeal said. “Our passengers and staff always show tremendous generosity and we are so pleased that we can support these charities again. I would like to thank everybody, in advance, for supporting this appeal which is now in its 35th year.”
Last year’s appeal raised over £7000 for charities thanks to the generosity of the airport’s passengers, friends and staff.
