Gatwick publishes its Corporate Responsibility Report 2006-2007
04 July 2007
BAA Gatwick publishes its Corporate Responsibility website and report this week, which details the airport’s progress on environmental, economic and social performance during 2006 - 2007, as well as a range of information about how the airport manages corporate responsibility. The report also details successful partnership projects with local authorities, airlines, the local community and voluntary organisations achieved throughout the year.
As part of BAA Gatwick’s ongoing corporate responsibility programme, BAA Gatwick this year has moved away from a paper report and has instead made the report available in a downloadable format on BAA’s website, Gatwick's corporate responsibility report. The report reviews progress made against performances on 12 key issues: air quality, biodiversity, climate change, noise, surface transport, waste, water, ‘our people’, health and safety, security, local communities and Gatwick’s role in the local economy. Performance is independently audited and verified by environmental consultants Environmental Resources Management Limited (ERM). Full details of how we performed against each issue can be found on the website.
Andy Flower, BAA Gatwick’s Managing Director said, “This is my first report as BAA Gatwick’s Managing Director and I am pleased to report a number of successes over the previous year. On noise, we increased the achievement of Continuous Descent Approach procedures from an annual average of 83 per cent to 90 per cent for all night time arrivals; we exceeded our public transport usage target with over 34 per cent of non-transfer passengers using public transport; and we also exceeded our target for reducing the business as usual CO2 forecast for the year. However, the report also reveals some disappointing areas of performance, for example we missed our targets to reduce aircraft track deviations and the percentage of waste recycled.
These are areas we will endeavour to put right in the forthcoming year. In spite of this, though, I believe that we have developed a robust approach to achieving good corporate citizenship and our challenge for the future is to make further step changes in managing the impacts of that growth”.
