Press Release

Gatwick is ready for the Easter break

30 March 2012

  • Gatwick sees over 1.5 million passengers taking advantage of the Easter Bank Holiday break (30 March - 15 April)
  • Dublin, Malaga and Milan ranked top destination hot spots for this period

From this weekend passengers are already getting ready for the first Bank Holidays of the year, as over 1.5 million business and leisure passengers jet abroad over the Easter break (30 March - 15 April).

Dublin is proving to be the most popular destination this year with Malaga and Milan coming in a close second and third. Interestingly, the cultural European cities of Milan and Barcelona have entered Gatwick’s top ten most popular destinations for the first time during this holiday period. With Monarch and easyJet operating flights to Milan and Gatwick’s latest new airline Air One - Alitalia’s low-cost carrier - recently starting a double-daily service, this destination is proving very popular.

Guy Stephenson, Chief Commercial Officer at Gatwick Airport said: “Easter is always a busy time for Gatwick with passengers heading off to enjoy the sunshine - having already experienced a taste of summer with an unusual spell of warm weather this month.

“Our busiest day will be Sunday 1 April when the Spring school half term starts.  We will be handling over 105,000 passengers that day. On Sunday 15th April - the day before school term begins - we will see most arrivals at Gatwick with 60,000 passengers.

We are passionate about providing the best passenger experience for all visitors to Gatwick. Our concierge staff, porters and information passenger assistants will be in the terminals to provide a warm welcome and be on hand to assist passengers with any queries they may have as they make their journey through the airport this Easter time.”

Gatwick understands that while holidays are a fun time for everyone, particularly children, it can be a handful for parents trying to contain their children’s excitement, which is why Gatwick is putting on some eggstraspecial entertainment for its younger passengers for the Easter getaway weekends.

On Good Friday (6 April), children will be able to enjoy watching professional dancers, aptly dressed up as Easter bunnies and chicks, performing in both south and north terminals. Gatwick staff will also be handing out free chocolate eggs in the terminals and car parks throughout the whole Easter period.
