Key points:
- Year on year traffic declined 2.6% in September as the economic climate continues to impact demand for leisure travel
- Traffic to long haul markets (excluding North Atlantic) continues to grow, recording a 7.1% increase on prior year, driven by Caribbean and African markets
- A further boost to Gatwick’s long haul traffic arrives in November this year with British Airways commencing flights to Cancun, Mexico
- In September, EasyJet commenced flights to Gothenburg from Gatwick, offering a daily service to Sweden’s second largest city
- As the winter 2010 season approaches, further new services are set to commence:
o EasyJet will fly to Croatia’s capital, Zagreb as well as Luxor in Egypt
o Ryanair to introduce five new routes including Milan Bergamo and Bologna (Italy), Faro and Porto (Portugal) and Oslo Rygge (Norway).
