School half-term holidaymakers head off from London Gatwick

08 February 2010

Nearly 400,000 holidaymakers will head off from London Gatwick between Friday 12 and Monday 15 February, marking the start of the schools’ first half-term break of the year.

Sunday 14, St. Valentine’s Day, is set to be the busiest, with nearly 100,000 passengers travelling through Gatwick to traditional hotspots including Malaga and Tenerife and winter destinations such as Geneva and Grenoble.

Stewart Wingate, Gatwick’s Chief Executive said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming passengers to Gatwick for the first holiday getaway since Christmas. Whether it’s for a romantic break, action packed trip or sunshine holiday, our priority is to make sure passengers have a great experience at every step of their journey from arriving at the airport to taking off.”

It’s important to remember that taking a little extra time preparing for security can make your journey through the airport easier. The security measures in place are for everyone’s safety and by being well prepared passengers can help avoid any unnecessary delays and make their experience at the airport more enjoyable.

Advice for passengers:

• Plan your journey to the airport and arrive at least two hours before your flight departs.

• Check with your airline on restrictions that apply to both hand and checked-in baggage.

• Liquids in hand baggage must be in individual containers no greater that 100ml capacity and placed in a transparent re-sealable bag, no larger than 20 cm x 20 cm (8” x 8”) in size.

• Hand baggage: In many cases passengers can take more than one item of hand baggage per person through security providing any bag has maximum dimensions of 56 cm x 45 cm x 25 cm (22” x 17.7” x 10”). However, some airlines continue to permit only one bag and passengers are advised to check their airline’s baggage policy.

• Pack all sharp objects, such as knives and scissors in baggage you’re checking-in. They must not be carried in hand luggage. Full details of the current security restrictions are provided at www.gatwickairport.com.
