Key points:

  • February showed London Gatwick Airport continues to recover well from the economic downturn with a year on year increase in passenger numbers.
  • A total of 2.05 million passengers travelled through the airport with the greatest gain in European scheduled markets, which continue to drive the airport’s growth.
  • Domestic and ‘other long haul’ markets also exhibited year on year growth of 4.7% and 7.0% respectively.
  • Traffic for the rolling 12 month period finished 3.8% down on the previous 12 months, driven largely by seven consecutive months of declining year on year traffic at the beginning of the period.
  • Air transport movements recorded good growth of 3.5% against February 2009, further illustrating London Gatwick Airport’s recovery from the economic downturn.
  • Cargo tonnage grew for the fourth consecutive month but remains down on a rolling 12 month basis.
