Key points:

  • London Gatwick Airport ended the winter season with a 1.4% increase in year on year passenger numbers. A strong result given 5.4% decline experienced in January alone from the severe and prolonged adverse weather conditions
  • Continued significant gains in European scheduled markets contributed to an overall 3.0% increase in passengers in March. The airport was pleased to report only a minimal impact from the BA industrial action
  • Growth in low cost traffic continues with notable gains in Italian, Swiss, French and German markets
  • Passenger traffic for the rolling 12 month period finished 2.1% down on the previous 12 months, driven largely by declining year on year traffic during the first half of this period
  • Air transport movements declined 0.9% against March 2009, comprising a 2.1% increase in domestic passenger movements and a 1.8% decline in international passenger movements
  • Cargo tonnage continued to grow for a fifth consecutive month
  • Looking ahead, new airline, Air Seychelles brings Mahe Island to London Gatwick's North Terminal. Weekly flights to Seychelles International Airport commence on 20th April 2010.
