London Gatwick Airport responds to Mayor of London's strategies
22 July 2009
London Gatwick Airport has submitted responses to the Mayor of London’s Economic Development Strategy and Transport Strategy – Statement of Intent. These responses are in addition to the overall London Plan and the three documents are intended to be read together.
“We recognise the importance of transport investment decisions made within Greater London, to our airport,” Andy Flower, Managing Director London Gatwick Airport said. “Gatwick Airport is the second largest airport in the UK. It is the world’s busiest single runway airport and provides a major international gateway for London. Gatwick Airport’s railway station, the busiest airport railway station in the country, handles in excess of 12 million passengers a year and around 900 rail movements a day. We share the Greater South East Sub Region with the capital city and Gatwick Airport is a main economic driver within the sub region. We believe that, as a major infrastructure provider, we are well placed to respond to this consultation. We look forward to working with the Mayor’s Office to help shape and develop transport and economic strategy to enable London to excel among global cities.”
The responses were submitted to the Mayor’s Office on 14 July.
