London Gatwick Airport invests in new North Kent coach service
23 June 2009
A new luxury coach service linking North Kent with London Gatwick Airport has been introduced. Operated by Excel coaches, the service is jointly funded by London Gatwick Airport and supported by Kent County Council and Medway Council. The service operates every two hours departing from Chatham Docks, calling at Hempstead, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Godstone en route to Gatwick Airport.
“One of our commitments towards delivering sustainable development at the airport is to provide good public transport links to and from the airport. This will contribute towards achieving our target of 40% of passengers using public transport,” Liz Trevor, London Gatwick Airport's Head of Sustainability said. “This new initiative, funded by Gatwick Airport and supported by Kent County Council and Medway Council, will serve an important part of our catchment area for the first time. We look forward to developing the service for the benefit of our customers based in Kent.”
Daniel Washington, Kent County Council Public Transport Planner, said "Kent County Council welcomes this new 24 hour service opening up new routes between locations in Kent and providing a direct service through to Gatwick Airport". The new coaches feature comfortable reclining seats, air-conditioning, toilets and on-board wifi service.
The service operates every two hours throughout the day and night with prices (from Chatham Dockyard) from £15 single and £23 return. The best rates are available by booking on line at www.airportbycoach.com
