London Gatwick Airport records positive traffic growth in November
10 December 2009
For the second consecutive month London Gatwick Airport has recorded positive year-on-year traffic growth.
Last month Gatwick handled more than two million passengers, an increase of 4.5% over the same month last year, and an increase of around 88,000 passengers compared to November 2008.
A breakdown by market shows growth in passengers flying to Europe on scheduled services, including easyJet, increasing by 17.3%. Traffic within the UK and Channel Islands on airlines including Flybe is up 8.8% against November 2008. Growth of 4.9% was recorded in long-haul markets, excluding North Atlantic destinations, on airlines including Emirates and Qatar.
Stewart Wingate, Gatwick’s Chief Executive Officer said: “London Gatwick is now a major independent airport and for the first time ever, it is operating in a competitive market.
“Our November traffic results demonstrate that despite the volatile market and challenging global economic conditions, Gatwick is competing strongly and recovering quickly from the recent decline.”
