London Gatwick Airport - officially the best!

14 October 2009

London Gatwick Airport was recognised as the best major UK airport at the Travel Bulletin Star Awards last night, beating nearby Heathrow and northern contender Manchester Airport

With millions of pounds worth of investment being made in the UK’s second largest airport, travel agents have declared that Gatwick is officially the best and is set to get even better.

“Yesterday was a great day for Gatwick,” Andy Flower, the airport’s managing director said.  “As well as winning this prestigious award, we also signed a contract for £31.3 million worth of redevelopment work at South Terminal. This will improve the experience for passengers and pave the way for major changes to the airfield layout, that will help accommodate our growth at Gatwick in the future. Despite the uncertainty of the sale, this award proves Gatwick is performing well as a business and being recognised for its achievements.”

Television personality Hardeep Singh Kohli presented the award to Mike Luddy, the airport’s commercial director, who added “This is the sixth time we have won this award, voted for by travel agents nationwide.   We are working hard to put the passenger at the heart of everything we do and make Gatwick the first choice for airlines and passengers.”

Travel Bulletin is one of the UK’s leading weekly trade magazines and their annual Travel Awards ceremony recognises the achievements of top companies across the leisure and travel industry.
