London Gatwick Airport welcomed a visit by The Worshipful the Mayor of Reigate and Banstead, Councillor Roger Newstead, accompanied by the Mayoress, Mrs Mary Newstead MBE; The Deputy Mayor, Councillor Nick Harrison; and the Deputy Mayoress, Mrs Pamela Harrison yesterday.

On an official visit, the Mayor and guests were met by Andy Flower, Managing Director London Gatwick Airport, and, after a meeting where they learnt about a number of issues affecting the residents of their borough particularly and the airport generally, were taken on a tour of the airport.

The Mayor and guests visited North Terminal and the landmark Pier 6 passenger bridge before being taken on a tour of the airport and Control Tower.

"As our neighbouring borough, Reigate and Banstead has a keen interest in the prosperity of the airport and a legitimate concern about such issues as noise and the environmental impact," Andy Flower said.

"Visits like this provide a valuable opportunity for us to share with our neighbours news of the airport and discuss key issues of concern. I am delighted that the Mayor, Mayoress, Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress were all able to take time from their busy schedules to see the airport operating."

The Mayor said: "The close proximity of a major international airport to our borough has a significant impact on our residents and it is important that we understand one another's interests and concerns and work together to achieve mutually acceptable solutions.

"I am very grateful to Andy Flower for affording us the opportunity to see the airport at work."
