Press Release

Runway closure at Gatwick Airport

11 December 2008

Due to exceptional  weather conditions overnight and a sudden fall in temperature on Wednesday 10 December, the runway and taxi-way areas at Gatwick Airport were closed at approximately 06:50 on Thursday 11 December, for essential maintenance and de-icing works.

At 08:45 approximately 60 inbound and outbound flights have been affected and a number of flights diverted to other airports including Heathrow and Stansted.

Gatwick Airport apologises for any disruption this may have to passengers’ travel plans today and we are working closely with our airline and other business partners to minimise the impact and re-open the runway as soon as it is safe to do so.

Passengers travelling from Gatwick today are advised to allow extra time for their journey to the airport.  Once at Gatwick, passengers are advised to check-in as normal and are advised to contact their airline for the latest flight information.
