20 February 2007

BAA Gatwick is embarking on its largest ever recruitment programme to find over 270 new full time, part time and seasonal security officers with a particular emphasis on attracting female applicants. The recruitment programme is already underway ahead of the busy summer period.

These additional staff will help to keep Gatwick safe and secure for the millions passengers who use the airport every year, resulting in an improved experience for passengers travelling through the airport.

David Stretch, Customer Service Director, BAA Gatwick explains the need for new staff; “Safety and security of our passengers are our top priorities. We have a busy year ahead and we need to make sure we have the right staffing levels in place to ensure our passenger’s journeys through Gatwick are safe, secure, quick and as efficient as possible. Our security teams work around the clock, 365 days a year, in a fast moving and unique environment. We are looking for people who have a great aptitude to deliver excellent customer service, are vigilant and who enjoy working in a fast paced team environment.”

Since Autumn 2006 and the introduction of enhanced security measures, Gatwick has recruited or retained an additional 65 security staff. In tandem with this recruitment programme, Gatwick is enlarging the security search areas in both terminals to meet increased security requirements and an increase in passenger numbers.

Successful candidates who pass the rigorous security checks will be given full training by BAA Gatwick and once employed will be eligible for a range of employment benefits such as a final salary pension, flexible shift working, subsidised travel and discount in airport shops. BAA Gatwick is a family friendly company and one of the region’s largest employers.
