Key Points:
- Passenger numbers in September 2011 increased by 4.9%, with 156,600 more passengers flying through Gatwick compared to the same month last year.
- The year-on-year increase continued the trend in strong growth in passenger numbers at Gatwick.
- Low cost carriers helped to drive a 13.1% growth in the European scheduled market
- Air transport movements grew 1.9% with short haul markets seeing the greatest gains.
- Load factors rose from an average of 83.2% in September 2010 to 85.2% in September 2011. This was driven by international short haul and domestic markets.
- The school summer holidays came to a close in early September. During this period, over 127,000 passengers travelled through Airport on its busiest day.
- AirAsia X commence operations at Gatwick on 24 October with a six-a-week service to Kuala Lumpur, closely followed by Lufthansa on 26 October who commence a double-daily service to Frankfurt. Both carriers offer excellent onward connections from Gatwick via their hubs at Kuala Lumpur and Frankfurt respectively, enabling passengers to connect to even more destinations in Africa, South America and Asia.
