Gatwick hosts sixth “Meet the Buyers” event.

28 June 2007

BAA Gatwick recently hosted the sixth annual Meet the Buyers event at the Gatwick Hilton Hotel which brings together local suppliers with key buyers. In all 150 suppliers from 129 companies met with representatives from 28 buying organisations from around the airport. The event was officially opened by Laura Moffatt, MP for Crawley and exhibitors and delegates were welcomed by Andy Flower, Managing Director BAA Gatwick Airport and Henry Smith, Leader of West Sussex County Council. The event is a regular fixture in the calendar and is sponsored by BAA Gatwick Airport in partnership with West Sussex County Council, Crawley Borough Council, Business Link and South London Partnership. Gatwick is a key economic driver for the region, providing direct on-airport employment for around 25,000 people.

Last year’s event generated more than £2 million of new business for the local economy. “Meet the Buyer is an important element of BAA’s approach to Corporate Responsibility,” said Andy Flower. “We place a high emphasis on working with our business partners to improve our environmental performance together. The event provides an opportunity to develop strong local supply chains by enabling local businesses to identify and meet new customers in a way that saves us all a lot of time and money.”

Buyers attending the event included construction companies; transport operators; cleaning, security and catering businesses and public bodies. Suppliers from right across the South of England brought a wealth of products and services to meet their needs.
