Another year of steady passenger growth at Gatwick
11 January 2008
Nearly 2.5 million passengers travelled through Gatwick Airport last month, an increase of 2.7% on December 2006.
Healthy growth in the Irish, European and North Atlantic markets helped to achieve greater numbers. There was a 19.7% boost in passengers travelling to and from the Republic of Ireland, an 11.7% rise in North Atlantic passengers and the European scheduled traffic market continued to expand with an increase of 5.8%.
Andy Flower, Managing Director, said: “During 2007 we worked hard to recruit more security officers and increase the number of search lanes at Gatwick. I am pleased that this work is paying dividends and the successful Christmas period took Gatwick Airport to well over 35 million passengers a year.”
BAA’s seven UK airports enjoyed an overall increase of 0.7% and a combined total of 10.9 million passengers.
