BAA Gatwick has won the best airport award at the prestigious Travel Weekly Globe Awards in London for the twelfth time.

At the ceremony, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London (Tuesday 27 January), Gatwick was named Best Regional UK Airport. The award was presented by comedian Michael Macintyre to Sarah Hunter, London Gatwick Airport’s Strategy and Finance Director.

The Travel Globe Awards remain one of the few ceremonies where the winners are voted for solely by the industry. It is the travel agents who vote for the winner, ensuring the highest standards and the ultimate service is recognised. This year’s award is the twelfth time that Gatwick has won a Globe Award since 1994 having previously won in 2007, 2005, 2004, 2003, 2001, 2000, 1999, 1998, 1997, 1996 and 1994.

“We are delighted that London Gatwick Airport’s excellent customer service has been recognised again with this award,” Andy Flower, London Gatwick Airport’s Managing Director said. “This is a significant award for the airport as it is voted for by the industry itself. It is also great news that a number of our airline partners were recognised as being top of their sectors.”

Gatwick airlines who won awards were British Airways (Best Scheduled Airline to Europe); Monarch Airlines (Best Charter Airline); Emirates (winning three awards: Best Scheduled Airline to the Pacific, New Zealand or Australia; Best Scheduled Airline to the Middle East and Asia and Best Scheduled Airline to Africa) and Virgin Atlantic (best scheduled airline to US and Canada).
