BAA Gatwick awards new contract to Vinci Park
14 April 2008
BAA Gatwick has awarded the contract to provide a new traffic marshalling service at the airport to Vinci Park, commencing 21 April 2008.
The aim of the scheme is to continue to improve traffic flows and security around the UK’s second busiest airport, with special emphasis on perimeter roads and forecourts, from where the new traffic marshals will operate.
The new service forms a key element in a major BAA Gatwick programme, designed to improve accessibility at terminals where passenger throughput continues to grow year on year. Work is already under way on redesigning forecourts at the South Terminal.
Parking enforcement at Gatwick Airport is currently the responsibility of traffic wardens. The new Vinci traffic marshals will provide additional support to the existing team of traffic wardens. Customer service skills will be vital to this new role, as marshals will be among the first representatives of the airport that passengers and visitors will see. Their role will therefore, be supported by dedicated training, delivered as part of a Vinci Park training programme.
Vinci Park will operate the contract through its existing management team at Gatwick, where it currently runs 7700 parking spaces in 11 airport staff car parks. Fraser Brown, Head of Commercial Transport at BAA Gatwick, said "The safety and security of our passengers remains our number one priority. The new team of marshals will provide valuable support to the traffic wardens in maintaining the flow of traffic through our forecourts. By moving on any parked vehicles and freeing up valuable drop off bays, delays for passengers will be kept to a minimum. Marshals will redirect drivers who are not immediately dropping off passengers to our refurbished short stay car parks in order to prevent congestion. We are looking forward to working with Vinci to provide the best possible experience for our passengers."
