Winter weather statement 3: Thursday 2 December
Snow is expected to continue overnight with temperatures potentially dropping to as low as -10 degrees centigrade.
Our teams are working around the clock to make the runway safe for aircraft to use and get our airlines and passengers flying again. The 100-strong team on the ground are busy clearing snow from the runway and anti-icing vehicles will be in use tonight in an effort to stop the runway from icing over.
Gatwick Airport will still remain closed until at least 6:00 am on Friday morning.
There will be no flights arriving or departing until further notice, and passengers can expect further disruption, delays and cancellations as long as the severe weather continues.
Passengers should not to travel to the airport without having checked that we are open. Passengers scheduled to fly out today or tomorrow should check with their airline before travelling to the airport.
Information is also available by following us on Twitter @Gatwick_Airport.
Train services to and from the airport will continue to be limited and road networks are also severely affected by the weather.
We will continue to monitor the weather situation and provide regular updates. The next update will be issued at 21:00.
