Between holding stack & airport

Between the holding stack and airport

It’s more common for people who live between a holding stack and the airport to hear the noise of planes as they leave the holding stack and then head for the final approach. Any reduction in height, without a reduction in power, will mean more noise on the ground, because the aircraft is closer.

There are no set routes or heights for planes when they come in to land, because ATC directs each one individually from the holding stack and into the airport.

ATC operates on a case by case basis to ensure high levels of safety and efficiency. This means that people who live between a holding stack and the airport may or may not hear noise.
