London Gatwick Airport launches public consultation on its draft noise action plan
London Gatwick Airport has launched a 16 week public consultation on its draft noise action plan.
The noise action plan, which is to be published to comply with the Environmental Noise (England) Regulations 2006, is a five year plan highlighting the actions London Gatwick Airport will take to manage and mitigate noise arising from aircraft departing from and arriving at the airport. The plan will be in line with guidance issued by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) in March this year.
“We know noise from Gatwick Airport is a concern for local people,” Andy Flower, Managing Director of London Gatwick Airport said. “We are committed to managing our impact on those communities surrounding the airport which are most affected by our operation.
“Aviation brings many economic and social benefits to the region which must be balanced against its impact on the environment. At Gatwick Airport a sustainable approach is an integral part of running our business. It's built into our culture and driven by our senior leadership team, so that we have the right processes in place to deliver strategy and manage our business safely and responsibly. This plan will demonstrate further commitment to achieving our aim to be a responsible neighbour.”
The final plan, which will take account of contributions made as a result of the public consultation, will be submitted to the Secretary of State for Transport later this year, for recommendation to DEFRA as part of the adoption process.
The plan seeks views on noise relating to Gatwick Airport’s current two terminal, one runway operation. It is not a consultation about future noise or an expanded airport.
The website, has been enhanced to help those wanting to take part in the consultation. This gives information about the current policy regarding noise, the process of the consultation, details of open days and a link from which the consultation document can be downloaded.
The draft noise action plan has been sent to around 250 interested parties to canvass opinion and around 5000 local residents are also being contacted. The plan is available online at www.gatwickairport.com/noise. Further information is also available by calling 01293 504625 or by emailing:
