Church leaders touch down at Gatwick

17 July 2008

BAA Gatwick is welcoming around a hundred Anglican Bishops over the next few days, as they visit the United Kingdom to attend the Lambeth Conference.

The conference, which is one of the Anglican Communion’s Instruments of Communion is held every ten years at the invitation of the Archbishop of Canterbury. It is giving over 800 Bishops from around the world the opportunity to meet for worship, study and conversation. Many Bishops will attend with their spouses, who will be holding their own conference hosted by Joan Williams, wife of the Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams.

Andy Flower, Managing Director BAA Gatwick and The Bishop of Horsham The Rt Revd Lindsay Urwin OGS met Bishop Harold Daniel, an area Bishop from Jamaica, when he arrived from Kingston.

“I am pleased that Gatwick is playing a significant part in welcoming overseas Bishops at the start of such an important event in the Anglican calendar,” Andy Flower said. “Our chaplaincy, which plays an important role for the Gatwick community, has been instrumental in ensuring that our overseas visitors for the conference are given the warmest welcome.”
