Sustainability

A sustainable approach is integral to the running our business. It is built into our governance and driven by our senior leadership team, so that we have the right systems in place to set strategy and manage our business safely and responsibly.

We operate a ‘Managing Responsibly’ system which encompasses Health, Safety, Security and Environment. This framework provides us with a systematic way of identifying and managing these issues as well as setting performance improvement targets. It is a comprehensive approach to risk management which includes established and inspection audits.

We have signed a new S106 (planning) legal agreement with West Sussex County Council and Crawley Borough Council (following consultation with seven other local authorities). The agreement outlines how the airport's operation, growth and environmental impacts will be managed responsibly. It underpins the important relationship between the airport owner and its local authorities with responsibility for planning, environmental management and highways.

The overall objectives of the agreement are:

  • The desire to see the airport continue to grow within the timeframe of this agreement to the annual throughput of 40 million passengers forecast in the interim master plan on a one runway two terminal configuration
  • The need to ensure that, as the airport grows, measures are in place to minimise so far as possible its short and longer-term environmental impacts
  • The importance of maintaining and enhancing the ways in which the parties to this agreement share information and work together and with other stakeholders to bring significant benefits to the airport and the communities is serves and affects.
