Bar coded boarding cards

Bar coded boarding cards

If you are travelling within the UK or to Ireland, you will notice that when you enter the departure lounge a video still image is taken of you and a bar code attached to your boarding card. This bar code will later be scanned and verified by a member of our security team before you reach your departure gate.

As passengers travelling within the UK and to Ireland are mixing with international and connecting passengers in the departure lounge, we are required to have some safeguards for security reasons. The image confirmation system allows us to check that only bonafide passengers for UK and Ireland flights can gain access to these dedicated departure gates.

This process means we can allow passengers travelling within the UK and to Ireland access to the main departure lounge. Facilities in this lounge include extensive seating, restrooms, coffee shops, restaurants, bars and a full range of shopping opportunities.

No other information is held and the image is destroyed within 24 hours in accordance with the Data Protection Act.
