Only an expanded Gatwick will provide the right type of capacity at the right cost to meet demand

Gatwick operates the most efficient single runway infrastructure in the world and the design of our airport expansion plan will enable us to deliver greater efficiencies with the benefit of a new terminal sited between the two runways.

Gatwick’s proposed new runway will be built so as to allow independent operation of the existing one and will adopt a ‘mixed mode’ method meaning that both runways are used for arrivals and departures.

With changes in aviation trends emerging, Gatwick will future-proof the UK as it can adapt to the increasing numbers of low cost carriers, the spread of new technology hub-busting aircraft such as the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350 series of aircraft, and the rapid rise of new hubs in the Middle East and Far East.
