Since April 2014, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has licensed Gatwick to operate under a new Commitments Framework

This commitments framework incorporates many areas of Gatwick’s performance, including pricing, service quality and capital investment.

Before April 2014 Gatwick was regulated under a now replaced legal regime, the Airports Act 1986. On this page you can find all the relevant documents for previous regulatory review period from 1 April 2008 to 31 March 2013 - this was subsequently extended to 31 March 2014. You can also find additional information on the CAA website.

Review of the economic regulatory framework and the Civil Aviation Act 2013

The Department for Transport (DfT) completed its review of the economic regulatory framework of UK airports in December 2009. This was the first time since 1986, when the Airports Act set out the UK airports regulatory structure that the legislation has been reviewed. The Coalition Government announced in the Queen's speech in May 2010 its intention to introduce an Airport Economic Regulation Bill. This Bill seeks to implement the decisions of the previous government from its Review of Economic Regulation of Airports. This bill became the Civil Aviation Act 2013.
