Route 5 | Gatwick Airport

Route 5

Modification of Route 5

Some departing aircraft from Gatwick are currently flying slightly to the south of the centre line of Route 5 - one of the nine departure routes used out of the airport. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has asked Gatwick to make a minor modification to the flightpath that will bring all aircraft closer to the centre line of this route.

All flights will continue to operate within the existing ‘noise preferential’ departure route. The aim of the change is that they will be flying closer to the centre of the route. The change means that some residents may notice a reduction in the number of aircraft overhead, whereas others may notice an increase.

We have created a briefing document which explains all the changes in detail.

The modification to Route 5 was implemented on 30 March 2017 and is currently awaiting review by the CAA.
