Jonathan - Training

Ever wondered where our hundreds of security officers learn the key skills required for their complex roles at Gatwick? Look no further than our Technical Trainer, Jonathan.

"I’m one of Gatwick’s 22 staff trainers, responsible for helping all of my new colleagues get settled into their roles. Seeing the difference the training course makes - from a colleague's nervous first day on the course, to their first shift on the 'shop floor' - is pretty incredible.

"I joined Gatwick after a family friend told me they were recruiting new security officers. I had just finished my degree in Sports Psychology and Coaching and was really keen to get into work. I've now been here for  seven years! There’s so much opportunity at Gatwick, and I’ve quickly progressed through a number of different roles. I've now reached a position where I get to use the skills I learned during my degree on a daily basis - and it's brilliant!

I've now been here for seven years! There’s so much opportunity at Gatwick, and I’ve quickly progressed through a number of different roles.

"With 1,800 security operatives working at Gatwick across more than 70 different teams, my job is always pretty full-on. As well as training the new recruits, I also have to make sure our current staff are kept up-to-date with the syllabus, and build on their qualifications regularly.

"What do I do when I'm not in 'training mode'? I'm partial to the odd game of cards with my mates. It's safe to say the communication and people-reading skills that I've acquired at Gatwick come in very handy indeed. I can read my friends' faces like a book!"
