Humans of Gatwick | Gatwick Airport

Linda - TravelCare

I work for TravelCare, we’re Gatwick’s resident charity.

We deal with a very diverse cross-section of people and problems. Anything from a helping a distressed or stranded passenger to mental health issues and even suicidal passengers.

As well as full-time staff, we’ve got some amazing volunteers that support us. We are all problem solvers - at least that’s how we see ourselves! We’ve got some great life skills as a team, from ex-foreign and commonwealth office employees, to ex-doctors, nurses and people with years of experience in the aviation industry. We work closely with the airport’s behavioural detection officers, border force and special branch - who help us to identify potential welfare issues.

Gatwick has always had a family and community spirit that’s so different from other airports. I feel very lucky to work here in a job that I love.

Linda clearly puts charity and community work first. She’s been the full-time manager at TravelCare for just under a year, but had volunteered for the charity before that. When she’s not riding her horses, she swaps four legs for two and loves running - we suppose you have to if you’re a two-time London marathon finisher!
