Nicola - Airport Concierge

"If you've ever gone through passport control at Gatwick, the chances are you will have met me. I love the fact that I get to talk to people from every corner of the world on a daily basis - that's the biggest perk of the job!

"I'm Nicola and I'm an Immigration Concierge. Basically, I guide arriving passengers through Gatwick's immigration hall. Whether it's helping people with the ePassport gates, or showing them how to fill in their landing cards properly, I'm here to make the journey from the plane to arrivals as seamless as possible.

"With over 30 years' experience working in a well-known department store, I know a thing or two about customer service! I treat each passenger as if they are arriving into London for the very first time. For many of them, their first impression of our city will come from me, and that's a huge responsibility. There's no doubt about it, though, a big smile goes a long way.

"Why did I apply to work at Gatwick? I guess I've always just loved the airport atmosphere. I travel from North London to Gatwick every day - sometimes in the middle of the night - so that gives you a good indication of how much I love what I do.

"My favourite moment so far was when I met my idol, Sir Richard Branson, when he was passing through Gatwick. They say you should never meet your heroes, but Sir Richard was as nice as pie. He had a lovely warm smile on his face and made sure he said 'good morning' to everyone he met. I suppose you could say he's a man after my own heart!"
