Who are we?
We work closely with stakeholders – airlines, Border Force, the Civil Aviation authority (CAA) and the Department for Transport (DfT) – to maintain the safety and security of both staff and passengers.
How do we work?
Airport security consists of two main areas:
Security operations is responsible for the day-to-day screening of passengers, staff and baggage in line with DfT and customer service standards; security regulation provides the specialist advice, processes and procedures to help frontline security staff fulfil the legal requirements set for the airport.
Security personnel work at the main passenger security area, at fixed posts in both the North and South terminals, as well as external airport areas.
We have a simple ground rule: to make the Gatwick experience better for passengers, as well as each other.
There is also a specialist team covering scheduling, security support, regulation and planning. They work with other parts of Gatwick and with external stakeholders, and support staff and processes across all the whole security department.
The ID Centre processes requests for new staff passes and for those people temporarily working at the airport.
It’s not all about process and procedure. There are also opportunities to use your interpersonal skills. Our Behavioural Detection team monitor, identify and analyse passenger behaviour, while our Concierge team - based in Immigration - help arriving passengers.
