Noise reports

In order to drive continuous improvement and to help showcase airline performance in relation to noise, an Airline Noise Performance Table has been developed. In collaboration with airlines, Gatwick Airport Limited identified strategic and operational metrics which are being monitored and reported against.

QC/seat is the strategic metric in the performance table, whilst both Continuous Descent Operations (CDO) and Track-Keeping (TK) are operational metrics. The methodology for all three metrics is detailed on the following slide. Airlines with more than ten movements per week are included in the ranking. Carriers with a base at Gatwick are highlighted in bold.

Our Airspace Office (previously flight performance team) publishes an annual report which includes information about aircraft activity at Gatwick Airport with details of our performance against a number of noise mitigation measures detailed in the UK Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP). They also include data on airfield performance, night flights, an update on the community noise monitoring programme and an analysis of complaints received during the period.

Unfortunately we are not able to provide noise data from mobile noise monitors in response to individual requests. You can, however, create your own reports using our WebTrak flight tracker.

Every year, the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Environmental Research and Consultancy Department (ERCD) conducts independent analysis to calculate day and night time noise contours for the summer period.

These are similar to height contours on a map. The reports do not show the noise that individual aircraft make, but rather highlight the equivalent continuous sound level in decibels at a particular location due to aircraft noise. 

Since 2015, all noise contour reports have been commissioned by Gatwick Airport Limited. You can read the previous reports commissioned by the airport below and historic reports commissioned by the Department For Transport.
